The "Factory", as it is known on the island, was established in 1918 in Breña Alta in La Palma, where D. Ernesto elaborated his handmade cigars during the week, and on Saturdays and Sundays tied cigar racks to his bicycle and began selling his cigars all over the island.
Gradually his reputation grew, and gradually the productive capacity of the factory. Already back in the 50s he had a staff of 60 employees, considered since then the largest tobacco company on the island of La Palma.
Approaching the first anniversary of its establishment, the Compañia Insular de Tabaco of La Palma, runned today by its third generation, continues to elaborate cigars created by D. Ernesto, in the oldest cigar factory in the Canaries.
The qualities of the MONTEALTO cigars are totally based on their craftmanship, starting from planting the tabacco in Montealto's own plantations to their elaboration, totally handmade, solely with the intervention of the wise hands of our tobacco masters who elaborate them with a knowledge transmitted from generation to generation and with almost 100 years of tradition.
